Cancun, Mexico Golf Vacation Information

Accommodations

As a world class vacation destination, Cancun offers ideal lodging for anyone's fantasy golf trip. While there are countless fine places for lodging here in Cancun, we would like to point out the hotels, resorts and vacation rentals that make it really worth spending your time in this lush resort and golfing town.

The JW Marriot Cancun is one of the finer hotel lodging locations. Situated scenically right on the shore of the Caribbean Sea, the 524 rooms offer the fine trappings of luxury and many come with breathtaking views of the ocean.

And it would simply be foolish to overlook the excellent Ritz-Carlton Cancun. With a central location less than half an hour from both the Airport and Cancun's bustling downtown area, the Ritz Carlton is situated on a thin strip of Cancun Island in between the deep blue Nichupte Lagoon and the stunning Atlantic Ocean.

One of the best resorts for happy visitors like you to stay at while visiting Cancun is, beyond doubt, the Hilton Cancun Beach & Golf Resort. Featuring its very own fairway, this is a natural choice for anyone coming to Cancun who wants to golf.

For prices ranging from under $50 a night to over $10,000 per week, the Cancun golfer can choose from a variety of splendid rentals in Cancun or on the famous Isla de Mujeres.

Dining & Nightlife

Even if you go for the discount twilight games, golfing will only take you part way into the evening. That's why it's a good thing you chose to vacation in Cancun, where there's plenty of fine places to eat and drink throughout the entirety of these intoxicating Caribbean nights.

If you'd like to begin the fun by going out to eat somewhere nice, you can't afford to miss the savory plates offered up at La Habichuela. The zesty taste of the Caribbean comes forth best in their many authentic plates when enjoyed on the outside candlelit patio.

Alternatively, The Porterhouse Grill is one of the more popular grub destinations that let's you revel in good cooking. The chef is steeped in the Cajun cuisine of New Orleans, and his eight different steak sauces make it hard not to please everybody who comes to eat here. Sink your teeth into a juicy sirloin as you stare out into the Caribbean from the Ocean-front patio. It doesn't get much better than this.

When it's time to start the party, then check out the always-hopping Señor Frogs club. With live music and a dance floor packed with thousands of sexy college students, it's a great place to get a feel for what makes Cancun famous. A more sophisticated night club can be found at The City, a nightlife hotspot that will wow any visitor with its impressive series of dance floors, live music and hip DJ's.

Activities & Attractions

Whether it's the ancient Mayan ruins or the blue expanse of the Caribbean Sea, the thick green jungle of the Mexican tropics or Cancun's scenic high rise resorts, there's plenty for you to do and see while on your golfing vacation in this paradise island destination. More specifically, we've found that the following make some of the most fascinating sight-seeing destinations for anyone on a golfing vacation at this paradise island destination.

Probably the city's most popular attraction is the Xcaret, which provides visitors with a compelling ecological park designed to awe and inspire. Indeed, much more than just a park, the Xcaret offers itself up as a historic site, a park for wildlife, a museum, a water park and a beach all wrapped up into a shroud of mystifying wonder. Come here when taking a break from the fairway and find a great example of the richness that Cancun has to offer.

If you're interested in a more nonchalant approach to sightseeing in Cancun, take a stroll down the famous Avenida Tulum in order to find yourself truly in the midst of it all. You'll get a sense of the colorful Mexican culture in a resort town setting with street vendors, restaurants and the oh-so-savory margaritas that seem to be sold on virtually every street corner.

So walk about Cancun, visit the sights and enjoy the warm breezes coming off of the Caribbean. You'll find that both the golfing and the general enjoyment fiercely compete for your attention. So let them fight it out - either way you'll win!

Cancun, Mexico Facts

Entry Requirements & Customs

The government of Mexico requires that all citizens of the United States bring photo ID and a valid proof of their citizenship, which may take the form of a birth certificate, passport or other valid document.

Climate & Weather, Average Temps

Cancun boasts a warm tropical climate year round. In fact, many would describe the constant 80ºF as perfect. It can, however, dip as low as 65ºF in the winter months, while May is typically the hottest, when temperatures reach as high as 100°F. Despite the heat, however, there are constant ocean breezes which make the climate palatable throughout the year.

The occasional rainfall comes briefly, but torrentially (think about stepping indoors for a few minutes) and the hurricane season is from July to November. The last big one to hit Cancun, however, was nearly 20 years ago.

Money & Currency

Despite the massive influx of tourists from the United States who come to Cancun every year, the official currency used here is the Mexican Peso, a little over 10 of which convert to a dollar.

Car Rentals

It's easy to rent a car in Cancun, and most convenient to do so when you arrive, instead of trying to arrange a pick up ahead of time. If you can shuttle or taxi into town you are likely to get a better deal than if you rent at the airport. Rates are decent.

Cancun, Mexico Golf Vacation Tips

When to go

Cancun is in the heart of a tropical zone, and therefore the best time to go is around November and December: it's never cold in Cancun, but during these months it's downright pleasant.

Health & Safety

As an international tourist destination, the crime rate here in Cancun is very low. Still, it is important to pair up when going out at night. Most drinking water is safe, but be sure to double check before drinking it.

Getting to Cancun

Flying into Cancun is made most convenient by booking a flight to the Cancun International Airport, located just 5 miles from the center of the city. It is also possible to come in through Cozumel. Either way, rental cars and taxi service is available to bring you into the city's Zona Hotelera (Hotel Zone) directly after getting off the plane.

Golf Lessons/Schools in Cancun

One of the best places for golf lessons is the Hilton itself. With a magnificent golf course lining the white sandy coastline, the Hilton makes it possible for everyone to take part in the fun. The Marriot Casa Magna also offers golf school and lessons as part of its long list of vacation resort features.
